I am an intelligent, capable woman, yet I qualify for almost no 'decent' jobs that are currently available. I have no specialties and no advanced degrees. I could apply to be a Patient Transporter at the hospital, but I probably wouldn't get that job because I'm too small and arthritic. Some 180-pound charming male applicant would beat me out for sure. Or I could apply to be a Call Center Coordinator and be extremely perky and friendly all day despite how much pain I'm in that day or regardless of how much someone ticked me off an hour ago. Or I could apply to be a Staff Support Associate at the hospital, whatever that is (requires no education) and make $11/hour... buuuuut they would probably look at my resume and drop me like I'm hot because I am extremely overqualified. EEEEEEKK.
Medtronic was a rare jewel. I got a job there by the grace of God. I acquired clinical research experience and then somehow landed an Associate Scientist job- my chemistry degree actually helped me there. But there are no companies in Lexington that are anything like Medtronic and definitely no positions that are comparable. Everything I've seen requires a Master's degree. dadgum.
Anyway, my one hope was a clinical research job here. Well, I got rejected for two of those without even being interviewed. Turds. lol! I applied for another one on April 28 and I STILL don't know if I got the job. I've had two interviews and I keep getting told "another couple of weeks and we'll have our decision." Well, pumpkins, it's been like over 5 weeks now since my first interview. Bah humbug. I'm HOPING they will get back with the candidates early next week. I mean, just tell me yay or nay please so that I may move on with my life. And my job hunt.
Eight years ago, my mom tried to ask me what I would do with a bachelor's in Chemistry, but I didn't listen. In my defense, I started the chem program with the intention of going on to pharmacy school, but being a pharmacy tech squelched that plan quick. I should have gotten a BSN while I was young and still on my parent's insurance and payroll. Had I done that, I wouldn't be writing this ridiculous post about not having a job. There are about 659 nursing jobs here in Lexington, give or take a few. Christopher thinks I would hate being a nurse. I dunno- it depends on what type of nursing it is. I digress.
Anyway, looking for a job really stinks. I pity people who have absolutely no credentials whatsoever. But hey, maybe they could get that Patient Transporter job.
Or perhaps I should just be a stay-at-home wife and volunteer for a living. God's kingdom-work is so much more valuable...

sorry, little eggies!
I feel like I've been M.I.A. Haven't so much been in the writing mood. Haven't really been in the mood to do anything, actually. I've been in pain for over 2 weeks with my left side/kidney/flank/whatever. Anyway, I prolonged going to the doctor for the majority of those two weeks, mainly because I'm bitter about leaving my amazing docs in Memphis. Not to mention, I am married to a doctor.

Anyway, I broke down on Friday and went to the UK Clinic because Christopher clearly could not fix me at home. I peed in a cup and the results were blood and leukocytes. So I got put on Cipro for treatment of pyelonephritis (aka: kidney infection)
Pain got worse over the weekend. You're supposed to get better when you're on antibiotics. Puked on Sunday night, randomly... I'm guessing from the pain.
So I went back to the clinic on Monday and told them I'm worse. The bacteria culture from Friday was negative which = no kidney infection, so the geniuses did a chest x-ray. (WHY?! I have no idea.) Surprise! They found nothing on that! Still had blood and leukocytes in the pee test, so I was ordered to get a CT. That's where I went today and why I say "I'm sorry, my little eggies"

Young, child-bearing-age women need to avoid being imaged if at all possible. It's not good for the ovaries... bad to fry the eggs, so to speak.
I had to get a lot of imaging done during the diagnosis of Crohn's disease three years ago, so I am sad that it came to this today. Hopefully God chose to protect my little babies in there!! :)
ANYWAY, I am awaiting a phone call from the P.A. to tell me if I have kidney stones... or something else random. We'll see. He's supposed to call me by 7:00 pm. Bah.

little birdies
We have three bird feeders in the back yard. I've seen almost everything except hummingbirds. They haven't found the nectar yet. :(
Here a few pictures of the sweet little birdies:
Yellow finches- my favorites!
Cardinal
Dove

Matthew 6:25-34
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

intruder
The other day I was taking Avery for a short little walk and on our way back up the driveway, this cute little Yorkie appears out of nowhere and was following us to the front door. If you know my dog, then you know he loves people, but HATES dogs... especially dogs that are smaller than him. So as soon as Avery realizes he is behind us, he turns around and viciously tries to eat Yorkie. I am frantically trying to shorten the leash and keep Ave off of the poor little thing but the stupid dog keeps trotting up to Avery and trying to be friends! Why?! Anyway, Yorkie is sniffing Avery and my crazy dog is growling and trying to bite him. Ok, I've got to get my dog in the house. So I open the door and try to unhook the leash, but here comes Yorkie happily trotting into the house. EEK!
Side note: Chris is asleep in the office after a 15-hour night shift.
Avery is freaking out and now Yorkie is hiking on Christopher's backpack! "NOOOOOOOO!" I scream, in a whisper. He gets out a drop, which lands on our brand new carpet. DANG IT, DOG! I drag Avery into our bedroom and he commences screeching and barking because he knows I'm alone with the Intruder. Yorkie is merrily investigating our house like it's his own. I scoop him up and take him outside to attempt to find his owner. I leave Avery in the bedroom and I pray that Chris can't hear him yelping across the house.
By the way, it's 2:00 pm and I'm still in my pajamas with no make-up on and some wild hair that has not been combed yet. I pinned the sides back with little clippies but I still looked like something the cat dragged in. Yikes.
The Yorkie has a collar (blue with diamond studs. classy.) but he has no ID tag.
Side note: Please make sure your dog or cat has a tag with a phone number or address.
The first lady I went to wouldn't come outside and talk to me. We conversed through the glass storm door. She attempted to point me in the right direction, but I failed.
The second door I went to was also the wrong one and she had no idea who the dog belonged to. She suggested I post an email on the lost and found with the HOA but I couldn't house the dog until then- Avery would eat him.
Then first lady comes outside and points to the house that I was supposed to go to... ended up being my next door neighbor. I ring their doorbell and I hear some guy yell: "Hey, somebody found your dog!" I handed over the pup and a girl comes out of the garage and thanks me profusely for keeping an eye out and returning him. She didn't know how he got out!
I went back home and rescued Avery from the entrapment of the bedroom. He sped around the house, nose to the ground, hunting for Yorkie. He frantically sniffed my clothes and became extremely agitated that I had picked up another dog.
Oh the craziness.
And Chris somehow slept through the whole thing. Thank goodness for ear plugs.
